The best dock for the ROG Ally & Steam Deck just got even better

The JSAUX 12-in-1 RGB Docking Station now offers VRR, ALLM and HDR support.

When I first looked at the JSAUX RGB Dock last year I was very impressed with the wide range of connectivity options and functionality it offered, though I did point out a few of its shortcomings. Now that they’ve released a new version with several improvements, I was excited to take a fresh look at it.

Let’s get the negatives out of the way first. The flimsy pop-out stand is still there, but I’m actually not as concerned about this as I was before. I’ve been using the white version of this dock with various devices for the past few months and haven’t had any issues with the retractable stand. It seemed fragile to me at first, but with regular use I’ve found that it actually holds up well over time.

I’m also happy to report that the strange flat USB-C cable is now gone, and the new dock comes with a much better, standard USB-C cable. I still like to use this new cable with a 90-degree angle adapter to make things even neater, but the solution you get out of the box is way better now.

In this updated version, JSAUX swapped out the clunky flat USB-C cable with a much better one.

Significant enhancements

When it comes to functionality and connectivity the new dock offers the same great selection of ports from the previous version (which you can see in the diagram below) but both the HDMI port and DisplayPort have been upgraded to offer 1440p gaming at 240Hz, and a max resolution of 8k at 30Hz.

The biggest improvement, however, is the added support for features like VRR, ALLM, QFT and HDR. If you’re not familiar with those terms, the first three aim to boost gaming performance by increasing frame rates and decreasing latency and input lag, leading to a smoother experience. HDR, or high dynamic range, improves visuals with a wider contrast range, offering a more vibrant and realistic picture.

A new look

Another major change you’ll notice is the new black translucent design. This clear smoky finish greatly enhances the RGB effect, and it looks just as good with the lights turned off, if you’re not a big fan of RGB.

I really liked how the previous white version matched so well with the Ally, but this new one also looks super clean. And with the added functionality on offer, I’m more than happy to switch over to this new look.

JSAUX also released a selection of transparent USB adapters, data blockers and cables that pair really well with the look of this clear dock.

Conclusion

With the latest improvements and a new design, I can confidently say that this is now my favorite dock for the ROG Ally, Steam Deck and other handhelds. If you’ve been on the fence about picking up a JSAUX dock, this is definitely the one to get.
